383, LT1 Heads/Intake, SR = 9.97@138+
Re: 383, LT1 Heads/Intake, SR = 9.97@138+
had some family issues come up (father had mild stroke, etc) and I just took it to track last Friday night and experienced the OBDI high stall problem.
Stock weight other than spare tire removed, 3.42 gears, 17" DR's, stock suspensions front and rear. . . .ran 12.2-12.6 at 111-112 MPH. Not bad for banging rev limiter at top of first, having to let off and nailing it again realizing the car wasnot in a gear at all and then easing the throttle 1/2 way to catch 3rd and then running the rest of the way. Tried launching a few different ways and had the problem all 3 passes. Hopefully Bryan's fix will do the trick.
Going back this Friday to find out. Should be an 11 'something" at 117 MPH or so.

96flame, I think the question should be “what if it is running at it’s potential?”
There have been numerous 110-114mph cars with LE’s biggest and baddest topend (do a search).
I can’t be the only one wondering this, but if you have at least 10x the customers out there, and your best is a second off and 100hp+ short of Rick’s Ai topend, what about that instills this unreal sense of surety?

I am currently running LE2 heads with a mild cam for emission reasons and trapped 116mph with a 3800 lb car. Thats on a stock bottom end and my intake still needs to be ported. Still think the problem is in the heads? Man I wish I had the cash to build a 383 solid roller right now so you could quit wondering. Ricks car runs the times it does because its setup very well. Most of the LE cars are street cars with 6spds which really aren't the greatest for the track which is why I'm swapping mine to an auto in the spring. I have yet to see an all out 383 solid roller with LE heads to compare to Ricks Ai topend have you? Lets start by comparing apples to apples next time before saying "and your best is a second off and 100hp+ short"
Re: 383, LT1 Heads/Intake, SR = 9.97@138+
I got the same thing from Airflow Development...I was told FLATOUT a 23* headed 383 the weighs 3600lbs CANNOT run 10.90's all motor on pumpgas, I was also told that 500 rwhp in the same weight car CANNOT run 10.90's, when I told him a freind has a 3700lb Z28 with an auto(4L80E) makes 505 rwhp all motor and runs 6.80's in the 1/8 mile on drag radials he said he is defying the laws of physics
The 23* heads I am going to use are Pro Action 220 or a 235 ported and converted with a super vic..I am going to see if I can do it.

. Am i paying for that.. Bet your *** i am.. But it's that attention to detail, that make's me glad i went w/ dennis.(which bret recommended BTW)..Just wanted to give another point of view w/ someone whom deals with dennis frequently.. he's been a stand up guy, w/ gob's of info and knowledge.. And to see him talked about so negativlely kinda tweak's a nerve or three...Possibly you interpeted him incorrectly, and what not..or didn't hear what you wanted to hear....Possibly gave him a combo that just was junk? i don't know.. I've seen many put a combo and hope for the star's only to be left w/ less than optimal result's.. Either poor planning, or they're mis lead.. I was not to be that guy, and gave him the entire deal to work with.. Told him what i wanted.. and left the rest to him.. i don't know.. !soapbox
On Another Note:
I for one gave the option awhile back for a fresh 355 to be used as the test mule for both set's of heads to be used w/ a std. 847 cam. as they're has to be a set variable.. Use DFI to run it, and **** might as well let Job spetter at Turbo People tune it.. Nobody called
and i don't even wanna keep either set..
Well guys we are going to put a set of LE3 heads/cam and intake on my 355" LT1 and see what it runs in a couple months. My car will not be setup as good as Rick's car but we will see how far into the 10's my 355 will run on motor. Later Clint
1. Is your sig correct?
2. Are you looking to pickup 16 hundredths to get into the 10s? Or are you looking to pickup about 1 second to get to low 10s?
3. You are expecting this improvement with a set of LT1's over the Trick Flows?
Thanks.
) but the track is the stickiest track you will ever run on.On another note, What is wrong with the Trick Flows?
I still go back over that GMHTP article, cool!!! maybe one day I can get a readers ride mention. But since that article you put in a roll bar, what else, has it been scaled for a final weight as of now?
A few questions, because I'm curious.

Will these be standard LE3 heads? Or might they have special touches?
What about the cam? Standard or will it be designed with a goal (Abare's time) in mind?

I agree.
Pointless fight too. Everyone, just buy the heads and cam you want and quit worrying about other people's stuff. I've never heard of either shop ever screwing anyone, and they both have lots of happy customers.
Rick's car is indeed flying!
It's really cool to see people like Lloyd, Bret, and Ron/Phil at AI still burning the midnight oil on LT1 R&D, wringing still more potential out of a platform that is considered obsolete and not worth messing with in many circles.
I'll be in the market for a set of heads sometime in the near future, and I already know who I'll be calling.

My sig is correct but the car only runs 11.30-40's with minimal track prep and normal weather. When the car ran 11.15 it was about 60 degrees and the track was great 1.50 60' on motor. I raced at an EFI Drag Radial race Sunday and came out runner up (and $350) due to breaking an axle at the strating line in the finals, darn stock 28 spline axles finally gave up. But I also hurt a head gasket in the semifinals when I sprayed the 2nd stage and my timing retard didn't work. The engine isn't missing so it just pushed the headgasket out a little. So since I was pulling the heads anyways I called Lloyd and asked him to send me a set of LE3's and cam so we can see what the car will do. The car is now 3,500lbs raceweight with 1/4 tank and no bottle in it. I am putting some 3.73 gears and aftermarket axles in the rear so the only parts I need is a good torquearm, rear shocks and swaybar to get some really good 60's N/A. I am shooting for 10.50's N/A with my 355" LT1. Later Clint
Let's clear some stuff up b/c when I read this last post and your sig I am a bit confused.
First off, some may not know this but you are running an 8.8 rear end, hence why you can run 3.55s and the stock 28spline axles, at first this was confusing me the 3.55s in a 10bolt but then remember'd, so if anyone else was wondering, there you go.
What did you add back to get to the 3500#s if you had a RW of 3450? I assume you are adding in for the TA and swaybar but not taking out for the bottle removal and springs. And get the axles gun drilled to reduce even more weight!!!
And can you let me in on why the LE3 heads over the TFS heads, are you sending the TFS heads to be ported close to the LE3 specs?
And you expect to add weight, and a set of heads/cam and pick up a second, over your already good heads and decent cam??
Will you get GMHTP to do follow up story? That would be neat.
