383 Hard start and hesitating

When trying to start my 383 I need to hit the gas on a cold start and after words it idles rough and sounds like its missing. After the car warms up, but before close loop operation the car starts running better. Many times even when the car is warm it needs a couple taps on the gas to get it going. And for the next 30 sec after its running the car will hesitate when the gas is hit, not very bad but you can tell. I have no idea what the problem is. I plugged in a scanner and I got no codes, many of the sensors that I could check with the scanner seemed to be fine. I have 5frames of info from the scanner I will post. These frames were when the engine was sputtering and at operating temp. Also all plugs are in the correct spot and I cant seem to find any vacuum leaks and I have a new fuel pump. Shoebox HELP!!!

Thanks for what ever help you can give

have you checked to make sure you didn't cross any spark plug wires? also age of the opti? and age of the plugs? also since you just built a 383 how old is the gas in the tank?

it could have very well died. have you got access to a oscilscope or a dyno to check your ignition? or you could just do the tests listed on shoebox's site.

when the car is cold turn the key on and scan to see what the ect sensor is reading, then watch it as it warms up to see if anything funny is happening

don't feel bad . i have a second attempt at a dyno set up tomorrow. well today the car started to run like it had a bad plug. bought a new set, pulled the old ones out and found numbers 6,8 and 5 were slightly fouled. to me it looked and drove like the wires were going bad. installed new plugs and the car runs worse. guess the wires are bad and after pulling them off this last time they decided to go to the big junk yard in the sky. now i gotta leave at 7am, get to the shop by 8:45 and buy a new set of wires and install them before i get on the dyno. now isn't this hobby just great. i hope you feel a little better just knowing that we all have issues, none of these cars are perfect. good luck DSM

lol I know put all the money into these cars and they still dont work wtf. Just like a woman... But thanks for your help Ill check out the dist as soon as i can. I rant into another problem where i tried grinding off the weight off the fly wheel. DONT ANY ONE DO THAT. the heat from the grinder helped bend the fly wheel so now i cant start the damn thing till i replace that.

I have not checked the opti yet but will do that today. I also want to check the MAF. I just got rid of the vibration in the car by grinding off the weights (dident bend the flexplate luckly) so after car start the car will bog down if i hit the throttle hard, if i hit it light it will accel lightly. I think its running rich. I can smell the gas during the time im having these bogging issues. after a while of running the car it will accelerate fine. Also I do not feel the power that i was expecting from a 383. Is it me or what? If you guys have any other ideas please let me know. I will try to test the opti today if I can.

Also when I looked at the numbers posted above i notices that i got 2.261 lb/min (17.093 gps) from the MAF when i was at 970 rpms That is very high for idle. It is strange that this reading is way off but the others are fine?

this may sounds stupid but how do you even get the leads of the multimeater on the leads on the sensore? that guy is so far down in there.

Also i took the car for a drive and it drove fin. it had a problem only on one start up when warm i needed to hit the gas to get it running. also i started the car in the cold today. (bout 50 deg) and it started right up and it dident sound like it was running fine but it was running really rich. I could smell the gas.
