16psi rad cap....good idea?

im trying to find out where my coolant is going, and well, i think the rad cap is bad.
it holds pressure, but does not suck any coolant back from the over flow.

anyways, my question is...

what is the down fall of running a 16psi cap, than the factory 18psi cap?

will it hurt anything?

i threw my old one off the chevelle on it thats rated 15-18, and the motor runs cooler now, and so far the low coolant light has not come on. (mine actually works properly).

just curious.

thanks.

It will lower the boiling point of the coolant and boil over more easily. Use the correct 18 psi cap and check your pipe to the remote reservoir for holes.

Any chance you have white smoke out of your exhaust?? Perhaps a blown head gasket?

This is actually a continuation of another thread.... generally not a good idea, since no one reading the new thread has any idea of what questions, suggestions, and info have already been provided in the old thread.

A "helpful hint" with regard to getting the best results/answers - if you find it necessary to continue an earlier thread in a new thread, at least provide a link to the old thread so people don't rehash material that has already been provided.

i know that thanks.

but this has nothing to do with the previous thread.

it was a general question as to, if its a good idea to run a 16psi cap on a called for 18 psi system.

thanks anyways.
