100K to disable OBDII knock sensor??

just a quick check before I buy it and do the mod, the page that I bookmarked on the net is no longer there for the resistance value I need.
I THINK it was 100k, anyone can confirm this??

THanks
Brian

I did it with a 4.7ohm 1/2 resistor I think

Yes a 100k Ohm resistor will work. What is the reason you are going to disable the KS in the first place? I have R/R's, LT headers, an alum FW and still have zero knock. The only time I have ever had knock is when I had the KS incorectly TQed. I would just be very carefull once you do this mod you are one bad tank of gas away from a new motor. Good luck and The OBDI OBDII use the same KS as far as I know.

No they don't... OBD-I uses a 4.5Kohm sensor, OBD-II uses a 100Kohm sensor. They are not interchangable.

Re: 100K to disable OBDII knock sensor??

With OBDI you could "bypass" the knock sensor withe a 3.9k ohm resistor. While it is true the OBDII knock sensor is 100k ohms you can NOT simply bypass the OBDII knock sensor because OBDII is "smarter" and will know you did this. You'll eventually be seeing I believe between 9 and 12 degrees of knock retard all the time if you attempt to do this. You can desensitize it with a combination of resistors but you can't bypass it completely.

Re: 100K to disable OBDII knock sensor??

are you kidding me?? I can't disable it 100%?? I think your wrong Brent, atleast I hope so this time . Is there a page that shows me the resistor values I need to desensitize it then to almost nothing??? I have a scanmaster I will try the 100k and see how that works.

The reason I want to disable this, is I'm having a real bad stumble problem. I am getting upwards of 16 degrees KR, and no detonation. I want to eliminate the knock sensor to see if the stumble is a result of massive timing being pulled. I already sent the PCM to ahve the KS desensitzed, now the knock jumps up to 8 degrees retard and the car runs better. I want to have no retard, 0 degrees at all times. I can listen to detonation I just want to do this to see if this fixes my hesitation in my car.

Yes I double checked and you are correct but the OBDII is the 100K version.

Hawk another way to disable the KS for trouble shooting if you have and extra is to hook up a KS not atached to the block, just make shre you have a ground wire to it (A hose clamp around the KS housing works well), wrap it in a rag and find a place out of the way and that the KS conector will still reach. It mat be a bit crude but it does work. I have also seen some of the EFI boats use a 90 deg elbow to help desinsitize KS's, Good luck

Well, it's easy to try and you'll know that if after a few days you get a bunch of knock retard again why it is showing up

I just did the 100k resistor. This is ridiculous. Short story it didn't work. I turn on the car after the mod it is pulling timing EXACTLY how it was before, almost like the sensor was still there. I mean it keeps pulling more and more timing as I increase the gas, how the hell does the computer know to do this with no sensor! I'm stumped. Also it seems the retard is related exactly to the amount of throttle I use, is this a computer problem???

Ok... well, have you thought of this... your current knock sensor is bad If your knock sensor is bad (maybe showing an OPEN) it would do this and then when you bypass it, it still sees it as no knock sensor so pulls the same timing. Have you tried replacing the knock sensor?

wouldn't it throw a code for a bad knock sensor though?? I'm thinking of sending in the PCM to get it programmed out, but I'll check the knock sensor as well just I hate to drain the coolant for the THIRD time in about 4 weeks to change it.

I'm ordering a new KS tonight, I'lll do this. If i still get knock retard, then someone tell me what is going on, lol
