You've got to remember that without that coating it is also allowing a lot more heat into the engine bay which is a MAJOR HP killer. Even if you decide to get the SLPs you should get them coated.
Coating is nice, but in terms of bang for the buck jet hot coating is not the best place to spend your money. Even jet-hot says something only 1-3% gains(someone correct me if i'm wrong but thats what i remember from their great video). We know they are biased towards their product so 300 hp * 1%; 3 hp, BEST case 9 claimed hp. Every lil bit counts, but you could spend that money more effectively somewhere else. I agree with doing it right the first time, but your not cutting off your feet if you don't get them coated.
Now if your headers aren't SS then it's a much better deal if you need corrosion protection too.
I personally opted for a local shops coating on just the headers and not the ypipe for less than half the price of jet-hot. Even if jethot is slightly better i'm sure it's not 2x as insulating justifying the cost.
I'm not knocking jethot either, JMHO and a friendly reminder that they aren't the only option for coating.

I bought uncoated SLP's for $250 on this board. If you want a bit more looks/protection, buy them used then have them coated (lots of people lately seem to be having problems with Jet-Hot though, might wanna look at some other places). You could probably come out around $400 for the set instead of like $700 for the coated ones new.

The coating also reduces the tube metal temperature, which reduces corrsosion (obviously this is the one place where stainless all shows some advantage) and reduces stress cracking through heat cycling. Other than the "appearance" factor, and a slightly better corrosion resistance, stainless offers little advantage. Coating both mild and stainless headers makes a lot of sense, IMHO.
another question guys, if a buy the SLP shorties, i know i dont have to move the cats or y pipe which will pass a visual test, but lets say if a want a new SLP y pipe and high flowing cats will i still pass the visual if i install all these new parts

As far as I know, SLP does not make cats. If you're in California, just make sure that the new cats have a CARB EO #.
