1 3/4" Shorties
1 3/4" Shorties
I wish I could go to long tubes, but I live in California and I'm pretty sure they will do a visual at the smog shop. Kern county is known for it's horrible air quality...
SLP seems to be the only manufacturer of 1 3/4" shorties (or midlength). But, they are a bit pricey for the ceramic coated units.
All the others I've found have been 1 5/8" primaries. I know if I buy them, I will always kick myself in the butt for not opting for the larger size.
Are there others out there? Or would I be better off going with the SLPs?
1995 Z28 - Single Cat
CC305 cam - Lloyd Elliot heads (soon to be)
Completely new valvetrain - all CompCams Pro Mag

Everything I've seen on the Macs says 1 5/8" primaries. I've also heard that they are not the greatest quality either.
The RKs might be an option but they don't have a CARB EO #. I'd better check these out a little more.

Mid length, 1 3/4" headers - Arizona Speed and Marine and TPIS are about the best quality out there. SLP's are a very good header as well. I went with the RK Sport headers, they're dimensionally identical to the Arizona Speed and Marine's, but the welds aren't as pretty and the coating isn't exactly top notch. However, after 2 years with them, I've got no rust. I'm pretty happy with them, but I wouldn't mind a nice new Jet-Hot or Paul Barry coating.
EDIT -
For a C.A.R.B. #, you're best bet is SLP's.

Strange, the AS&M website lists their headers as long tube, but the picture looks like mid-length headers.
Hmmm... I smell something fishy.

I just talked to a couple of local smog stations here in Bakersfield. All of them told me that if the exhaust looks aftermarket, they look for a CARB EO #. If they don't find a CARB EO# (either on the car, some documentation, or their manuals) it will NOT pass the visual.
So I'm stuck with SLP. I guess it's not so bad, they have a pretty good reputation.
