It's not a matter of laziness, it's a matter of waste. Why waste perfectly good oil by draining it out at 3000 miles when it's nowhere near the point of causing your engine more wear?

3000 mile oil changes only benefit the oil companies and Jiffy Lube.

Question the differerance

you say that 0w30 is great oil to use, can you explain why 5w30
wouldn't be the better oil. how does mobil 15w50 become so
good to use, i would think that it is a thicker oil and wouldn't do well in cold weather?

and is 0w30 & 15w50 good oil to use in cold climates, like where i live in ill?
thanks
zoso

I just want to say something about the 15-50 oil.

I grew up with the old hotrods and 15-50 or 20-50 were great for those old motors.

Fast forward to the late 90's, when I bought a VW Passat with a VR6. (fantastic motor BTW)
I began using 15-50 mobil (this was before i switched to Amsoil), and I had summertime overheating problems.

As an experiment, and at the urging of a VW engineer, I switched to lighter weights; 0-30 in the winter, 10-30 in the summer and 5-30 in the spring & fall.
This was due to the tight clearances in that engine.
My running temps plummeted, the mileage went up by 2mpg (yes, TWO mpg), and the engine seemed to rev free-er and higher.

On modern engines with tight clearences, I have become convinced that synthetics with a 0-10 range for the first number are great.

I use 5-30 Amsoil in my '95 LT1 and 0-30 in my 2000 Forester, both year round, although I do change the filter every 3000 miles.

I also make it a point to get the LT1 up to full operating temperature at least once a month, and keep it there for a good half-hour. This "burns off" things like water and assorted hydrocarbons from the combustion mix that slips past the rings in normal operation.

I'll tell you what...
I used to think that the Amsoil hype was, well, bullshˇt.
I began using it in an old motorcycle i used to own that had a peculiar (by todays standards) oil requirement.

One day I read through their ENTIRE website. Now obviously, they going to say good things about themselves on their own website, but still...
Set aside an hour this weekend and read the WHOLE damn thing. Very informative, in addition to the usual product propaganda.
