Why does the engine have to be on when you are hosing it off? And is this just the engine or the entire engine bay that we are talking about?

Drive to car wash.

Put in quarters.

Spray the snot out of it.

Enjoy your clean engine.

Don't get inside your alternator or spray the electronics directly and you'll be okay.
And then again I washed mine off carefully with a water hose and it missed for a week

Make sure you don't use "Engine Brite" cleaner. It is also made by Gunk. It cleaned most everything pretty well, and put a little shine back in the block too. But it FRIGGING ATE MY AIR LID!!!! The stuff must have something like acetone in it or something. All the composite or relly heat resistnat plastics were ok, but the lid started discoloring as plastics do when they start to dissolve. Don't use it. Use simple green.

I believe you leave the engine running so you don't crack the block.. I don't wash inside my engine.. but if the engine goes from hot to very cold it will go bye bye

I haven't cleaned my LS1 yet but when I did on my old LT1 I used Simple Green and used a full gallon to swish water onto certain areas (vs. a running hose which will splash everywhere). Worked great
