Trip Meter

Every time I get gas, I always reset my trip meter thing. I can get from 270-300 miles per tank. Pretty normal. Well, recently the trip meter keeps resetting itself when I turn the car off. Im positive Im not resetting it, so its defentinally resetting itself for whatever reason. Ive never had this problem before. I have no idea what would cause it, has anyone else experienced a similar problem? If not, do you have any idea what it could be? Thanks.

theres a ghost in the car.

when it resets by itself..........do all your gauges go all the way for 1 quick second? as soon as you turn on ignition?

I really havent noticed anything unsual. Are you asking if they are all turning off for a second, or all turning on for a second? Either way, I havnet noticed anything. If its doing what you said, do you know what the cause would be?

Its just annoying, nothing major really.

my trip used to reset on its own, an also.......as soon as i would turn the key on........all my gauges would swing all the way real quick then come back to normal.

It ended up being a bad connection on my positive cable on the battery. it had alot of crap on the terminal and i cleaned the **** outta it and fixed!

just give your battery terminals a quick inspection. see if its got some corrosion or acid hanging around. take them off, give them a good scrubbin. if not that, than maybe the fuse for the instrument cluster is having some false contact.

Its your battery. Mine started doing it last year, but only once in a great while, but the last couple of weeks its been doing it every time I start it, then this morning it didnt want to start at all just the dead battery click click click, so went to autozone tested the battery, and it was no good got a new one put it in, no more problems.

I had a loose battery cable one time. Everyone I know kept saying it was the alternator so I took the car to the dealer. After a $100, a week with out my car, and the dealer putting 40 miles on it; they call me and tell me it was a loose battery connection.

I have the same problem with my 99SS. Go to LS1.COM and look under "LS1 Technical Discussion" then "LS1 General Help" for a posting from KATESS.

There is a post fro XBCHBUM that talks about what to do to get this fixed.

TSB #99-08-49-009 dated 07/23/1999 about the problem

Thanks for the help. Ill take a look at that later. Last time I tried to get a TSB fixed they said they didnt have to do it, it was simply to let them know there could be a problem with whatever. The car is obviously out of warranty, so wont they try to charge me for any work they do? I dont know much about TSB's, but are they required to fix the problem regardless? I know its not a recall or anything like that, so I cant imagine they have to fix it if the car is not under warranty.

My local Chevy dealer is moving to a new location some time this week so I don't know much about the TSB. My son-in-law works for GM, I'll ask him to check it out and get me a copy of it. I'll let you know what I find out.

That is all true but at least the TSB will head them in the right direction the first time and save you all the money of them fooling around trying to find out what's wrong.

Thats pretty much what I figured. Even when the car was still under warranty though I was having a problem with the rotors. I pointed them into the directon of some TSB, and they were just like "Oh, well we dont have to fix it like that, so we'll just turn your rotors" I also had the belt replaced twice because it was squeaky. Well, it squeaks again. I wish they would have just followed the TSB they had out for the 99's about the belt tenisoner, because thats what it is. The problem could have been fixed the first time. I dont know if my Chevy dealer just sucks, or if they all try to avoid doing the work properly.
