Re: LS7 in an f-body

still...for the average weekend mechanic like me. it is more logistic to work the LS1 (supercharger, cam, heads, etc...) to 500+ hp then buy an LS7. but an ls7 in an f-body is still neat.

Re: LS7 in an f-body

I agree. I'll mod my LS1 until I get bored... or strike the lotto... 14g's for a 427 is a lot of moolah...

I just can't help but immagine that chassis twisting torque that motor can produce....

Andyeah, If you've got 14g's to play w/ I'd go nutz on the LS1... Forged, Valvetrain, boosted, Heads, intake exh.. Full revamping....

Re: LS7 in an f-body

i guess if i had the money to dump into the camaro, i would go with one of the 402 bobcat motors from slp, heads, decent cam, 12 bolt, beefed up trans w/ mcleod ST & master, better exhaust, zo6 brakes & rims, and maybe a procharger if i find it a bit sluggish...

Much cheaper to do a forged 402 LS2 shortblock for under $4000.

Try to get the heads on that 402 to work right... power is in the heads.. for 14k... and all that it comes with.. that engine is a bargain...

Re: LS7 in an f-body

an LS7 is a cam and header swap away from 550 rwhp. not exactly a bargain but you can't argue with the power.

guys that make 550+ rwhp probably spend close to $13,000 on their engine.

personally I would go with a resleeved LS2 block at 4.155" and a 4" crank to make a 434 and then use LS7 heads/intake with a custom cam. cost less but you'd get the same results if not better. LG motorsports got 623 rwhp out of an LS7 with their headers, one of their test cams, electric waterpump, light porting on the exhaust side of the heads, tuning, and some "special touches."

I don't know about you but 623 rwhp is insane, especially when you're making it all motor.

Re: LS7 in an f-body

that is some crazy hp. though, i really dont need more than 500. i DO NOT wanna put a cage in my car just yet. besides, when you start getting over 500 rwhp, the car kinda gets a little hairy on the roads.

Who said anything about stock displacement?

If I were really serious about getting power out of my car, the first thing I'd do is bore and stroke it. 408ci, here I come!

Some nice Larry Meaux-ported LS6 heads or ETP 255cc heads would work wonders. *shrug* Pair that up with a nice, healthy solid-roller and you have an easy 550 rwhp through a 6-speed.

Much less than $14000.
