LS7 in an f-body

I was talking to a buddy last night over some beers...and the subject of ls7's came up. I was just curious to see if anyone has put one in an F-body? and how difficult it would be. noted, it would be alot more cost effective to build up the ls1, but i was just curious.

Re: LS7 in an f-body

I don't know how hard the swap would be, but the engine alone costs almost $13,000. With that kind of investment you could build an LS1 to well over the 505 HP the LS7 is rated at. Just my .02. Sorry, just read the last sentence.

Re: LS7 in an f-body

i havent done it myself, but read some refitting is necessary if you want the dry sump system. 427's have been used in 4th gens for a while now by lingenfelter and or calloway.

Re: LS7 in an f-body

there is a company here in michigan called kaytech and they have one in a 02 ss and it seems to run good but it would be much more effecient to build a ls1 But yes you can put a ls7 into a f body and i have no idea of the mods needed to make it fit

Re: LS7 in an f-body

oh, i am well aware of the costs. and i would never do it. as i said in my original post, you could build an ls1 up for much cheaper than 13k. i was just curious if anyone had done this.

Re: LS7 in an f-body

The physical size of the block is the same, so as far as "fitting" into the car, there's no issue (it's no different than a 267 - 400 SBC). The only thing you'd have to "work" on would be fitting the dry-sump system of the LS7.

...now if GM would allow running THEIR 427 LS7, bought through GMPP (instead of an aftermarket 427) and they maintained your factory warranty with it, THAT would be a sweet deal. Now I realize that most/all warranties are probably up on the late 4th-gens, but on the upcoming 5th-gen, that would be cool (if they don't already offer a ~500HP option?).

Re: LS7 in an f-body

A guy on LS1tech did it... W/ N2O... LIke 500hp wasn't enough!

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=547405

Check the LS2/7 room at LS1tech.com

I'm actually concidering the Devil Ray punched + stroked 427 LS2... A small bit cheaper. Just have to find an LSX cable TB for the LS2.

Re: LS7 in an f-body

LS7 and the 427 LS2 arre about the same thing. Maybe some block differances. If I were to go w/ the TRUE ls7 I'd do the Warlock Block.

Re: LS7 in an f-body

LS2 is 364ci or something close to that... the LS7 is a 427ci, like that from the factory..

The Devil Ray 427 motor is a LS2, just revamped. I believe they also sell the long block.

Re: LS7 in an f-body

Yeah, but if you supercharge an LS1...

Unless you're swapping in a big block (and even then I'd have my doubts), there is very little reason not to upgrade the factory LS1. The potential is phenomenal.

Re: LS7 in an f-body

I understand and agree that these LS* engines are good. But stock displacement can only take you so far. Unless you have GOBBS of $$$.

I kinda see it this way. You'll ahev to build a stock LS1 to 500hp. The LS7 makes it stock, if you strap on soem forged internals and throw 25lbs of boost at it, you'll have a MONSTER!

And yes, I might have been thinking about the 454 Warhawk, I remember reading about it in GMHTP.
