Is the LS1 that much more powerful than LT1 SS?

Is the LS1 that much more powerful than LT1 SS?
First of all, my daily driver is a '99 Z28 6 spd w/ a few very minor mods. This '96 SS my boss is selling me is also a 6 spd, but I swear it feels sick. My question is, should it feel that much slower than my LS1? I thought it should be fairly similar in performance, but I swear my LS1 would destroy this thing even 0-60......maybe the catalytic converter is clogged? Am I so used to the LS1 that the LT1 just feels that much slower? Anyone else had this feeling?
Not trying to be a smarta$$, here, I just think this SS has something wrong with it or needs a tune.

My guess is that the LT1 you're looking at isn't running full strength.

Thanks, I think/hope you're right........I plan to do some investigating this weekend & try to find what is wrong with it......right now I'm just happy to have two F-bodies simultaneously.

If you keep the revs under ~3000 rpm, then the LT1 will "feel" faster. Crank out the LT1, and it runs out of steam much earlier than the LS1, which only picks up around ~3500 rpm and pulls over ~6000 rpm no problem.

Stock LT1s should feel faster than stock LS1s though they are most certainly not.
Have Auto Zone do a free computer scan. It might be the Opti Spark. I spent about $800 chasing the problem with my Z. I changed the plugs, wires, fuel filter, bought new O2 sensors, cleaned the TB and intake, and removed the catalytic converter among other things.
The first thing you need to do before changing even the cheapest parts is get the car scanned. Don't spend a dime on it without a scan. I nickel and dimed myself to death. Last on my list was a $350 Opti and a $200 install. That fixed it. Don't peck away at it like I did without a scan.

I agree. No way a six speed LT1 SS should "feel" slow. Unless it's caught a tiny flu bug or something. Take it to the doctor and make it better.

270hp compared to 300-310hp....sure it is gonna feel slower

Re: Is the LS1 that much more powerful than LT1 SS?
He right, the LT1 is gonna feel just as powerful because it works harder than the LS1, however the LT1 has a lower peek rev so it doesnt catch up to the LS1

If by a few mods you mean intake, headers, cutout then yes...that should put you about even or maybe a little faster than a bone stock LS1.

Re: Is the LS1 that much more powerful than LT1 SS?
Drove the SS some more today, after I found a hole in the bellows and a broken vaccuum hose, and repaired those....car seems to run a little cooler w/a little more power .......I think it's a matter of fixing the things that have been neglected by the former owner & a couple of shops that "worked" on it. I will probably sell it & keep my LS1, though, since I love the LS1 more
Thanks for the replies,
Jeff

Not trying to start a flame war, but a stalled A4 LT1 with a cam will get out of the hole better than an LS1 with similar mods, and after that you guys are playing catch up, and that 1/4 mile mark comes up fast.

Re: Is the LS1 that much more powerful than LT1 SS?
Every LT1 car I test drove felt faster than the LS1 cars. I ultimately made my decision based on that. I test drove a lot of cars Something isnt right with the car..
BTW, i know a lot of LS1 guys forget this..but the LT1 SS cars were pulling mid 13s as published by many magazines.. I remember someone getting 13.30s out of the LT1 Firehawk as well.
