Going to look at an LS1 tomorrow
I agree with all of you talkin about how the teenagers with their cars bought for them are just 'not right', if you know what I mean. They are all of the worst. It sickens me even, at the age of 18, damn near 19, to hear kids bragging about all these nice cars they get, but they're handed to them! Just like previously stated, they'll never respect any nice cars if some of the nicest are just given to them. I had to start out with a $1000 Sunbird. Drove it for a year, wrecket it (average teen), then I worked my *** off for an 88 Camaro. Plane Jane, nothing special other than the 305 <cough> V8. I sold that back in May cuz I was leaving for the Navy. Right after I sold it I thought, what the hell, now that I can afford it (with my own money), why not get a car I've always dreamed of, a 4th gen 'Bird. So, with careful shopping, I purchased my 99 TA and became another teen to own an LS1. See, here's the thing though, I pay for it by fighting for my country. Pretty good deal if you ask me. I pay for the car, I pay for the payments. I only needed my dad to co-sign since I didn't have any credit, but that's the extent of help from Daddy. But yeah, to wrap this all up, I'm part of the majority that can't stand listening to people my age and younger bragging about something that was GIVEN to them. Whole lotta BS. And BURNOUT5.7, you were NO WHERE NEAR OVERBOARD, with ANYTHING you said. Well said brotha!!!

Hey, I'm 15 and i've been saving up my money DESPERATELY to be able to afford an f-body. Well, It sure as hell ain't gonna be an LS1 but, probably an LT-1. The reason for the urgency? I DON'T want a rice burner!. I have the utmost respect for cars, and i understand them. Of course you won't belive us when we say we'll be careful, I CAN handle the power. Some of them are just lucky, if my dad offered an LS1 to me, I'd be on cloud nine, wouldn't you?Like i said, give us a break, and be careful for a teen like me when you pull up next to us and don't expect a match, Chances are, I'm gonna get the jump, and powershift to the win!
and you'll go home
No hard feelings,
-Kirk
Sometimes it takes more than respect for the vehicle... sometimes it takes miles behind the wheel to gain experience on how to handle, not only the car you're in, but the other cars out there. I know this sounds like an insult, but the same goes for whatever you're in -- fbody, mustang, pickup, or yugo -- when something is new to you, it takes a while to get better at it. I had plenty of respect for my first motorcycle... but I laid it down just the same. My first car -- an '83 Cavalier Wagon -- was a piece of crap, had very little power, and I still wrecked it when I was 17 years old because I didn't have a whole lot of experience driving in a sudden snowstorm that popped up. I thought I'd be fine, but when someone cut me off and I lost control, that was all she wrote.
That being said, it sounds like you're really saving your pennies to get this car... and that's very respectable. I'm only 28 years old so it's not like I have 50 years of driving under my belt either. Here's what I think... it's better that you're getting an american muscle car than an import.
Welcome to the flock and PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

As for 1999silverSS, I wouldn't worry about this kid. I'm 24 and I knew lots of kids in high school that were driving hot fancy cars that parents bought them. I started out with a 1974 plymouth satelite (yeah it was way coooool, let me tell you) but i used it to drive to work most every day until i had enough to buy a nicer car. Yeah my parents helped me some but i scrimped and saved and while firends were blowing money on new cool clothes and stuff i was saving. Even then I just bought a used middle of the road eagle talon. It was sporty and i really appreciated it and babied it. It was just a pretty cool car to most but it meant a lot more to me. Took real god care of it. since then i have gone to college and traded the car for my 97 z71 and when i graduated and got married we bought my dream - the SS. But most importantly i have watched the spoiled kids and 1 of 2 things happens. 1) they run that nice car into the ground until its a p.o.s. and still drive it while they still live at home and waste away or 2) they're parents are still handing out money hand over fist while they still live at home and waste away. There are exceptions but this is how many of them turn out. And when you run into them later in life and you talk to them and they have nothing going for them and you can say that you have bought that new car and have a career and are building a house and don't live in high school anymore, you'll get the last laugh...except you won't because its really just sad and getting enoyment out of their misery would make you no better than them. Just my 2 cents (or maybe a dollars worth judgin by the length)
lol, 1 of those 2 happens huh? O_o i dunno... not totally agreeing with ya on that one... not seeing how having a nice first car is gonna do that to ya... but anyway, i think u guys think way to hard about the younger generation and the cars they have... I am the younger generation.. and the definition of the kid u are all talkin about... brand new T/A (in sig) and i am 17.... and its true we are spoiled and lucky and everything else... . Yea yea i know u bought ur own cars and u earned ur respect and walked up through the ranks to have a sweet car now... but times have changed... its all around now, is it worth whining about and posting on a forum about it? is it gonna change anyones mind on having a new car? u tell this to us like we have never heard it before? I hear it from everyone.. but do u think i give a crap? so i got a new car... friend has a new beamer and my other just got a new Audi S4... my point being... just drop it.. u can type it all out until ur fingers are blue and hurting like hell but its NOT going to make a difference.
Sorry i am not usually a smart *** and i apologize if i affended anyone in anyway. I am just really aggrevated with this topic and why u "old timers" are still whining about it.
Me personally i am paying full for my own car.. we bought it for 32 grand brand new... i got a 458 monthly payment for the next 5 years. i work my *** off everyday after school which ends at 10:30 and 12:30... till about 7-8 at night. my parents however do pay insurance

stylezz28- your right it was a vague generalization. Plus you bought your car so i wouldn't have been refering to you. I just see of a lot of it. I guess what i was really saying was what you were saying - Who cares what somebody else has because it shouldn't matter to you. And if they wind up a loser then having that car didn't help and if they wind a milionaire that car didn't help. I think its funny when people think they are the S*** with the new car and then have nothing when mom and dad stop buying but it doesn't effect me one way or the other. I wouldn't turn down a new car if I was 16 or any age for that matter. More power to them. Didn't mean to offend anybody.
Better get back to work so I can pay for that car
