Cool Going to look at an LS1 tomorrow

Hey, Tomorrow I'm going to look at a 98 Camaro Z28 that's for sale. I know a lot about LT1's and their common problems but I don't know a whole lot about LS1's. It's an auto w/ 3.23's, T-Tops, 115000 miles(Highway miles), all the options expect Leather and Traction Control and the Car has no Mods. What should I look for when buying a LS1?

Question

That's a lot of miles, highway or not. I'd check all service records, run a car fax to make sure it hasn't been wrecked. Ask questions about oil consumption, things like that. With that many miles you should get a real good deal. I bought a '98 Z28 brand new, sold it with about 20000 miles and never had problem one. Good luck, LS1 equipped Camaros are a lot of fun.........

Talking

Guess what everybody?... I bought the car today. I love it. I got a car fax report and it's clean. It's got no problems and runs great. Because of the high mileage I got a good deal on it. I think i'm going to be the only 16 year old on this board with an LS1, but I am happy to be here.

You guys are really lucky to have such nice things at a young age. I bought my first camaro as my own graduation gift. It was a 89 IROC I picked up for 1000 bucks. I am 23 now and if Im lucky I might buy a 96~97 next month. I attribute my supreme wrench skillz to all my POS car buying Ive done all my life. Im on my 8th auto. Ive never paid more than 3 grand for one. I think my time has come for the 4gen. And Im gona try to pic up a first gen here soon too.

Hmph... when I was that age, I had an '83 Cavalier Wagon.

I consider myself very lucky to be able to afford a brand new WS6 now at almost 29 years old.

SORRY TO BE THE A$$ HOLE HERE, BUT THESE KIDS ARE THE LITTLE HIGHSCHOOL SPOILED A$$ BRATS THAT I HATED WHEN I WAS THERE! THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THAT A 15 OR 16 YEAR OLD KID SHOULD BE BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A 300+ HP CAR FOR HIS FIRST TIME ON THE ROAD! I STARTED OUT WITH A PIECE OF $HIT 86 IROC, FIXED IT UP, SOLD IT, BOUGHT A 92 RS CONVERTIBLE, FIXED IT UP, SOLD IT, BOUGHT A 95 T/A, FIXED IT UP, SOLD IT (I'M GETTING TO THE POINT SOON) AND ONLY NOW, WILL I BE ABLE TO AFFORD AN LS1 CAR! YOUR GUYS DADDIES THINK THEY ARE DOING YOU A FAVOR BY GOING OUT AND BUYING YOU $30,000 CARS, WHEN IN REALITY, THEY ARE A: POSSIBLY KILLING YOU. IF I HAD THAT KIND OF POWER IN A CAR AT 15 OR 16 I KNOW I (AND PROBABLY ALOT OF YOU GUYS) WOULD HAVE WRAPPED IT AROUND A TREE JUST F---ING AROUND! AND B: YOU WILL NEVER KNOW THE JOY OF WORKING FOR SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF. IF YOU START OUT WITH ONE OF THE BADDEST CARS ON THE ROAD, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOOK FOWARD TO? I HAVE A LITTLE MORE RESPECT FOR THE KID THAT IS BUYING THE 100K MILE CHEAPY, BECAUSE HE MAY BE USING HIS OWN CASH, BUT STILL NOT A WISE DECISION FOR A FIRST TIME DRIVER IN MY OPINION. IF YOU GUYS THINK I AM A **** FOR POSTING THIS, THATS OK. I JUST WANTED TO GET THIS OFF MY CHEST AFTER SEEING IT QUITE A BIT ON THIS FORUM.

A lot of people might have been thinking it, but I didn't think some one was going to actually say it. I think I'm gonna duck now and let the flame war begin.

You know.. i don't wanna be an @ss, but i gotta agree.... Even if you're buying the car yourself, not mommy and daddy, those are very VERY powerfull cars to have at such a young age... my first car was an old beat up 84 camaro, with the 2.8, and i got into trouble with that!!
But hey, who am i to judge? It's easy to say that you wouldn't get the car if it was you in that position, but who knows? when i was 16, i wanted a newer camaro!! So, more power to the kid who's gettin the LS1 with high miles if it's with his own money... Just a piece of advice though, from one camaro fan to another, drive safe and be smart with the car...
