Factory Freak?

Re: Factory Freak?
I would have to say that freaks exist.. I am close to seeing my 12's. And yes.. still bone factory stock and 50K+ miles! and its not slowing down at all! haha
Any 1 mod.. regardless removes you from ever being considered factory stock.. JMO..
(i just replaced my windsheild wipers with the same model bosch wipers if that gives you any idea of my commitment to this..)

Re: Factory Freak?
Ive heard something about some of the 01-02 LS1's being HP hogs from factory. Mine is in the 12's and all I did was put 3.73's and a Loudmouth on it. I dunno if mine is one but I have heard there are some out there that are freaks of nature coming off the assembly line. Just luck of the draw I guess.

Re: Factory Freak?
13.08 bone stock 98 on a 90+ degree day first time at the track (never better than a 2.1x 60', only got worse from there), 12.89 with lid, catback, factory tires 2nd time at the track.
325-330 rwhp bone stock? I don't think that's ever happened. I've witnessed a few reach the 320 mark, but never 325-330. Then again, some people have a strange definition of "stock." And let's not mistake torque for rwhp either. LOL

2000 A4 with 3.23s full weight.

Re: Factory Freak?
Considering there are LS1's dynoing from 280rwhp (a Motor Trend 98 T/A 6spd that was compared against a Cobra in a comparison test) to 326rwhp that I've heard of, all being manuals there are cars that run better than others. To call a car a freak if it puts down 315-320hp is overstated. It's simply a strong running car that may have benefitted from things ranging from:
fresh cutting tools on various machines that may result in, say, a finer honing surface in the cylinders for better ring seal
cylinder bores that came out at the small end of tolerances resulting in tighter fitting pistons and no slap and oil burning,
or even an owner who broke the car in better than the average Joe who just "keeps it below 4000 rpm for 1000 miles."
There are so many variables out there it's not worth it to get up in arms about 10hp.

Evan Smith actually ran the Z28 and so he was able to make that claim, unlike AlmostfastLT1's claim without means to support it.

Is it possible the factory might have screwed up the installation and put in the wrong set?
Forget the math formulas, pop off your cover and count teeth if you want to be sure. Hell, even your code on your car is for a 3.23. I ran some of those formulas with my 70 that I knew had 4.11's and got a range of numbers. So yes, the math can lie. As stated before, its only as good as the formula and your calculations.
Guess some people like to feel they have a special car even if it makes them look dillusional.
