Cut off muffler make car quit?

Maybe I run 11's on luck, so I know nothing at all.
He said that maybe from the gases getting hotter than what they should be could cause the fuel pump to not operate right...and i didnt know running 11's made you a master mechanic. I know a girl who has a drag car and runs 9's and she doesnt know a damn thing about a car... just drives.
