Exclamation All with 2001-2002 LS1's, some important info I found concerning valvetrain noise.

I was at the local Chevy dealer yesterday to ask them about the ever increasing valvetrain noise that I've been experienceing. This is what I foud out:

There is a technical bulliten or 2001-2002 LS1's. The tech bulliten states that on some LS1's of these production years there may be a defective seal in the oil pump. The symptoms are loud valvtrain noise on startup, especialy in cold weather. The bulliten states that the noise usually diminishes or disappears as the car is driven and heats up. This is because the hydraulic lifters are being starved for oil and are not "pumping up" as they should It didn't go on to say that this can "F" up the lifters, pushrods, etc.....but I guess that would be a given.

Anyow, my car has an appointment next week to get this seal replaced....and hopefully end my "noisy valvetrain". I figured this is some important info....so I'm pasing it on

Take a look, interesting stuff. It says the noise may be diagnosed as a collapsed lifter and that noise "may" start from a cold start,"appear to diminish" and then come back as the engine reaches it's normal operating temp.

I've been thinking for a while this might be the ticking I have also. Haven't had time to bother the dealer with it the last couple of months though, but I plan on taking it to them AGAIN after I get back from the desert in a few. My warranty doesn't run out until October so I've still got time.

If this is a defect from the factory, shouldn't it be covered reguardless if the engine is still under waranty?

I'm pretty sure the only time a service bulletin is taken care of for free is if it's still under the original warranty.

It has to be an actual "RECALL" to be paid for AFTER the warranty expires.

I think there's exceptions for certain emission and safety items.

Well, that blows. Although my eninge does have an extended 12k mile waranty since they dealership put new piston rings in it before I bought it. It should be covered then I guess.
