6.0 liter Camaro 1994
Ok, you guys did it again. just when I think I know what I am going to do, you make me think twice. One of the members emailed me concerning my build up of a 383. I was asking if a regular 350 block could be used. Well in the course of our conversation, he mentioned that a 6.0 would be awesome. I then told him how I have a bunch of them at work that I can get my hands on. I can get a good price because I work there, and they have never been installed or run. They have zero miles. That got me thinking of what if??? I mean a 330 hp LS1 that was never offered in the car would be pretty unique. So what I want to know are your opinions on if it could be done, what it would take, and how diffucult it would be. I am thinking it would involve a wiring harness, because the LT1 is different, but I dont know about the computer. Could it be reprogrammed? I mean I have tunercat, but I know that is over my head
what about the compatability with my 4l60e trans. As well as cooling, and the speedo. Not that it would be that hard to retrofit a 98 up dash into the car. Espically if I had to change wiring. Any input on this one would be a great help. I really think I would dig this setup, and I could still mod the crap out of it before I pull my LT1 and do the swap. This is essentially what I wanted to do with the old style 350 block. I still can drive my car, and when it is all ready to drop in and I have all the parts I can do it with minimal downtime. One thing to consider before you reply, I do work for a salvage yard. So I will have access to things fairly cheap and I WILL find them because I am the counter guy. I work with a computer all day looking up and finding parts. So I should be able to find everything, but the problem is I dont really know what "everything" is. Any feedback on this one?

One other thing, I have seen this done. We got a mule car in from GM on time. It was a 96 with a 6 liter and a firebird ramair hood. No kidding, they riveted the ram air scoups area onto a camaro hood. They made them out of steel, very ugly, but you could tell what they were up to
Bummer was they pulled the tranny before they sent it to us for disassembly.

Are you talking about the 6.0L iron block LS1 derived Vortec truck engine? If not, what is a "6.0"? From looking at my Silverado, that engine appears to be even taller than the passenger car 5.7 LS1.... as a minimum you would have to get rid of the big boxy intake manifold. That is also a fly-by-wire TB setup in the latest incarnation.
You would need a complete engine, a complete wiring harness and a complete computer.... probably several, since over the years, they seem to be setting these things up with more and more separate "modules".
Then, I suspect the reason the 98+ hoods sit high enough to cover the wipers is because it has to be high enough to fit over the LS1 engine.... the 6L truck will be even harder to fit, so naybe a complete front clip swap from a 98+ is in order.
This is NOT high tech... you need to figure out what you want to do and focus.... I don't even know where to move this, but it belongs on LT1 Tech or LS1 Tech.... I suspect people on LS1 Tech have dabbled in the truck blocks, so I'll move it there.

Yes that is the motor I speak of. I have seen one under the cowel of the car. Like I said I have seen the mule car up close and it fit. Unfortunaly I never thought of the swap at the time we had the car or I would have taken pictures. I assuemed the wiring and computer would need to be changed, but is there anyone or any program that you can modify a 6.0 computer with. I plan on changing some of the inner workings of the engine, cam, and rockers, and maybe a different crank...dont just know yet. The lower end should be good, they came with a 6 bolt main. This is something I have the cash, and time and parts to do. I would love to be the first to do it and make it work. Just trying to get a little input and any help available. I thought it would be advanced tech, guess it is just low tech
But I dont care which forum it is in, as long as somebody is willing to give some input for my food for thought file

I have had a 6.0 liter LQ4 block in my 98 Formula for almost a year. It's been bored out .060 and it has the same deck height as a 4.8/5.3/5.7 engine. They all are interchangeable.
What Fred saw was that the truck intake is very tall. You could not run one of those, you'd have to cut the cowl.
You may also want to look at www.ls1tech.com for advanced tech q's.
I also have a complete 2000 SS A4 driveline for sale with engine, tranny, converter, pcm and harness for $4000 shipped for $3500 pick up with less than 9000 miles on it.
I currently go 11.1 with 10.8:1 compression, on pump gas, at 3600 raceweight.
We are now doing a hotter cam, new LS6 heads, and removing 200 lbs out of the car, hopefully 10.5's are possible.
