Trouble Starting- LT1

Hi, I have a 97 z28 six speed. I usually prime the car about four times before actually trying to start it. When I try starting it not priming it, it cranks for like 5-10 seconds and starts. When its running, it is very strong only has 60,000 miles. I was told the fuel pump probably went and need a new one, or i need to replace an injector. Any ideas which one could be the problem? Thanks

You need to test the fuel pressure.

Does your fuel pump make a lower-pitched noise than normal when priming and does it take a bit longer to prime than what it normally should? I had the same issue on my '94 and when I did, it wasn't long before it wouldn't start altogether. Your fuel pump could be on it's way out, I'd get it looked at ASAP.

Re: Trouble Starting- LT1

It may be losing the "prime" pressure too fast. It should pressure to at least 40psi when you turn the key to "run", and not drop quickly. If the pressure does drop quickly, it will take longer to start. Cycling the key to "run" about 5 times before turning it to "start" may shorten the time it takes to start. If it does, its a fuel pressure problem.

As noted in the first response, test your fuel pressure, with the engine not running. See how fast it drops off after the pump shuts off.

Dropping fuel pressure could be caused by:
-faulty check valve in the pump
-faulty fuel pressure regulator
-leaking injectors
-leaks in the lines

Might change the gas filter first. If it's clogged, can be hard to start.My02.
