97 Trans Am. Locks, window, radio, and wipers ALWAYS have power
97 Trans Am. Locks, window, radio, and wipers ALWAYS have power
--97 Trans Am with factory keyless entry. When I turn the car off, take and keys out of the ignition and open either door, the powers stays on to the radio, wipers, windows, and locks. Normally when you open either door it should cut power to all of that but it isn't. I thought it might be the switch in the door jam but the chances of both being bad is low. It has an aftermarket radio in it but it was doing this before that radio was installed. If it sits for more than a day, the battery is dead. I don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions?
--I pulled the RAP module and it killed the power to the DS power window but the locks, radio, and PS window motor still worked.
With the key in the ignition I get the "ding" only when the driver side is open. When the passenger side is open nothing.
--Also, when I turn the key to the first click, I get no lights on the dash. When I go to the last click before starting I get all of my dash lights except for the security light. I dont know if that is related though. The PS window also rolls up and down "alot" slower than the driver side does.

Re: 97 Trans Am. Locks, window, radio, and wipers ALWAYS have power
what is the dome light doing when you take the key out open and close the doors? Does it function, how long after you close the door does it stay lit?
Is there anything else wiring wise that has been added/changed from factory?

Have you at least taken your finger and pushed on the switches to see if they feel act normal?
Re: 97 Trans Am. Locks, window, radio, and wipers ALWAYS have power
the 4th gen door pins are built into the latch. If it was an intermitant short it could keep turning the dome light on and off, but it wouldnt turn the radio on, the dome light will normally time out after like 5 minutes anyways.
Re: 97 Trans Am. Locks, window, radio, and wipers ALWAYS have power
The dome light is normal. I pulled the switch that is next to the gas pedal tucked into that plastic holder. I have pushed both switches in and out taken them out the they look fine.
I am leaning toward the electrical part of the ignition switch.

Re: 97 Trans Am. Locks, window, radio, and wipers ALWAYS have power
The dome light never goes out. It comes on when you open the doors but never times out. Also noticed that I can turn the headlights on without the key in the ignition. Also have power to the fog lights.
Re: 97 Trans Am. Locks, window, radio, and wipers ALWAYS have power
well, I would look into the ignition switch definately, maybe that is why the dome isnt timing out. Do you have any aftermarket lights or something that might be causing a back feed?
Re: 97 Trans Am. Locks, window, radio, and wipers ALWAYS have power
Update.
The red junction box next to the battery has several wires that come from the harness and go to the red box. I noticed one of the wires had tape on it. It was broken in half. I took it out and hooked everything else back up. By having that wire gone, I have no power to the wipers, windows or headlights. However, when I put the key on accesory I still don't have power with that wire unhooked.
