My door occasionally tends to reset the closing latch to the open position therefor shutting the door doesnt work. I got curious as to what the problem was and found a spring about 2 inches long inside the door. Does anyone know where this spring goes because I cant seem to figure it out.

 

I found a spring that goes somewhere in the handle to open the door from the outside. i did not put it back in cause i don't know how to. the door handle still works but the handle is kinda floppy. i kept the spring just in case i figure it out.
