smoke coming out the oil dip stick and oil cap

sup guys.
i was trying to get some help about something.today i took the car out for a spin and everything was doing good. so i took it on the freeway and gunned it pretty good but didnt redline in any shift and i only reached about 90mph. then i started to smell like something burning. there was a few plastic sensor line covers that touched the header so i thought maybe that was it but then i noticed that there was smoking coming out the oil dip stick tube and the cap and also from the other side of the manifold but very little from the other side. brought it back to my moms for some rr but it was still smoking. im thinking that maybe when i gunned it oil came back up and was burning in the tube and inside the cap. i dont know why it was smoking from the other side of the manifold though, just alittle. i put more oil thinking that it was short but still burning. the engine is freshly rebuilt with about 500 or more miles. still needs tune but got it tuned to be in the ball park. i hope it is just burning the oil that squirted out the dip stick tube. but still want other input. also the heads are ticking just alittle more than before, very minimal. going to tighten the header gaskets. thanks for your time bros.

You need to tell us the specifics of your car, particularly year and engine. They built F-Bodys for 36 years, with a huge number of different engines. Why not add a "signature" including - year, model, engine, tranny, any major mods? That way we can help you without asking for more info.

Have the rings seated yet? Sounds like excessive blowby. Is the PCV system fully functional?

sup buddy, i certainly hope so. the rings have about 500 or so miles.

how long does it usually take for the rings to seat properly.i was thinking that maybe the rings might have not sealed or even worse have gotten stuck or melted.i checked the back of the car to see if any oil was burning and i didnt see any black smoke or oil exhaust drops. going to warm it up in the mourning to look again. if the rings are the issue then what do suggest. thanks for you input.

If the "ball park" tune is causing it to run rich, the rings may not seat, at least not if the excess fuel is washing the lubrication off the cylinder walls. Might need a leakdown test to determine if they are sealing.

rings being seated

hey bro thanks for your time and advice,so should i tune the car first or redo the rings first, i also didnt mention the fact that the freakin car was short a quart. i have done 2 sick bournouts and i have never had a problem until i drove it kindve hard getting on the freeway, but i didnt redline in any gear. i have also noticed that when i have previously redlined in 3 and 4 gears the motor stalls out or leans out at about 5500 or so. thats what got me wanting to do the tune alot faster. i hope i dont have to re-hone the cylinders cause that will be a big job. i might have to call it quits. or stroke it. i am going to change the oil and hope that it might make a difference or maybe change the rings from the oil pan opening. i love that car and it also belonged to my buddy before he died so.... i dont know what to do. thanks.

Not sure what additional info you need. First.... do a leakdown test to see if you have a problem with the rings. Also, have you checked the PCV system?

In any case, if it runs that poorly, it needs to be tuned.
