Rear Question

I currently own a 1997 Camaro that I'm going to do an engine swap in V6 to V8. Is the rear in a z28 any different or sould i just get the posi gears and axels?

Re: Rear Question

You can buy a used rear from a Z28 for short money so you may as well just do that. You will need different springs and shocks as well.

Re: Rear Question

Thanks for the advice, I was just wondering if it was the same rear so i can get all the stuff i need and put it in the V6 then swap it over when i do the V8. I don't have the best job in the world so it will talk me a while. ... Good suggestion with the rear though. I almost forgot my rear is snapped and leaks. Also if i go and get the rear from a z28 will it still work with the V6 setup? Thanks for the help.

Yes. If you can try and get a late model rear with a zexel torsen diff., they're a lot less prone to making the tail slide out when you get on it while turning. An Auburn diff is ok too but it's a lot better for drag racing than turning.

Re: Rear Question

#1 if your rear is snapped and leaks you need a new one anyway. Plust I'm almost certain the V6 rears are open differential vs limited slip on the V8 models. I also agree, opt for a replacement V8 rear. Basically you can go with the gears of your choosing. 2.73,3.23,3.42,or anyone that went aftermarket. Anything around $300 bucks or less would be a good deal. Provided the rear is in good working order and has reasonable miles on it. And yes I also believe the V8 rear will work with your current V6 setup until you swap in the V8.
