They aren't really redneck by themselves, but they are if you put them on a car it didn't come with, or had it as an option.

This should be in the appearance section.

i'm not sure how it would look. doesn't seem redneck, but then again extremely dark tint seams ghetto to me. just a matter of preference.

NO dont do it. I've seen a couple of these on cars and they will really date your car, unless your reaalllly into the 80's.

Its plastic and comes in 3 pieces to glue together... Not worth the money....

The company that makes them for 4th gens makes a 3 piece and a 1 piece. The 3 piece is much easier to ship, but the 1 piece is a nicer unit.
Expect to pay about $450 for the one piece after shipping charges.

I painted mine the same color as the car, at an added cost.
Unfortunately, somehow my installation kit went AWOL, so I made my own so I could use this item as I tracked down the manufacturers information (Willpak Industries Inc, under the brand name Astra Hammond) and begged for another install kit.
They were concerned and cooperative, and sent one.
It arrive 2 days after my home brewed install kit failed at 60 mph on the highway.
They offered me a 3 piece for half price (plus shipping), I explained that was unacceptable after spending about $500 for this stupid thing, to spend another $300+ to get it back wasn't something I was going to do.

Anyway, I LOVED the product. Kept a LOT of heat out, darkened the interior, while still allowing full parallel light through. It was made fairly well (ABS plastic), and the install kit certainly would have held it just fine... if it had gotten to me in time.

No one else liked this on my car though. Not that I cared.

I wouldn't do it for looks alone... but if it keeps the sun out, and the interior from fading, go for it.

Re: rear hatch sun shield on 4th gens

Yes. And there is still an inch or two of clearnace to spare. The amp (while not "top of the line") is small as heck, and because it is a "class t", I don't have to worry about the heat from a class d burning through the plastic.

It measures 10.4in. x 9.8in. x 2.6in. inside the housing, but housing is meant to be optional. As pictured at my site I'd guess it to be 9x8x2.

I think the lines really blended in well with your Ponti... Looks good. I don't think it would look as good on a Camero though. The lines flow differently

Dude, that looks horrible to me. I had one on my 78 Rally Sport and my 81 Trans Am, but everyone had one back then. I wouldn't put one on a 4th gen. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for your input. My opinion is that it is MY car, and I'll do what I like.
It would still be on the car if it were up to me, but I can't justify that kind of cost twice.
