LED interior lights instead of incandescent cause airbag

Hello,

Last week I tried to replace my rear cyclops light with LEDs and my airbag light came on when I did this. I switched the bulbs back to incandescent and airbag light did not come back on on restart. Since then I have been trouble shooting a temp gauge. Today, as soon as I was done with the temp gauge - the airbag light came back on. I have replaced all interior lights with led and left incandescent on all exterior bulbs. I don't know if it is a strange coincidence that the airbag system is throwing s light all of a sudden or what. I've tried doing a flash with a paper clip and only get the start code of a "12"

Airbag light flashes 7 times then stays on for key on and also after start.

I have read that this issue could be caused by a clock spring or bad module. I am unsure of my next steps.

The car has not left the garage since this all started

Any ideas or recommendations for next steps ... I don't want to pull the bulb and ignore the issue.

I would disconnect the negative cable from the battery for a while and see if this helps.Code 12 in my code reader book says everything is normal but you can't go by that.I have had issues with bad sockets on my previous f-body and the switch under the dash that controls the lights. The airbag thing is throwing me though.Hope this helps.

To get the SIR system into diagnostic mode, did you short pin "K" to ground? This is not the same as putting the ECM into diagnostic mode, shorting pins "A" and "B". I have never worked on a 93, so this is just what the 1993 factory service manual indicates. Shoebox's diagram of the DLC connector for all years, shows the 93 pin "K" as bottom row, third from the right. But it does not show a wire connected to that terminal.

http://shbox.com/1/DLC_wiring.jpg

But the 1993 diagram shows that there is a purple wire connected to pin "K" and it is for "Diagnostic Request" to the DERM in the SIR system.

Once you get it in diagnostic mode, DTC 12 will flash to confirm it is in diagnostic mode (not that is means "everything is normal"). Same as the ECM diagnostic. It will then flash DTC 13 is there are codes stored in history, but you cannot access those codes without a code reader. The history codes are codes that have appeared, but are no longer active. Then you would get any active codes flashed.

Thanks Fred .

When grounding K, I get this series of codes from the airbag light .

12

13

61

62

Repeat

I will search for what these codes mean

Thanks

So it says those are instrument indicator failure.

I changed the air bag bulb back to the stock bulb and all problems are gone... I assume this has to do with resistance like the abs issue with the third tail light ... Crazy cars..
