Post Ideas on where to fit a sub into a 4th gen

I want to put in a sub, just one for now I think, becuase I don't really care for anything TOO loud, I just want to boost my stock system. But I have no idea where to put one! I don't want to put it where the T-Tops go, I'd like to keep that space clear. I also don't really want to remove my backseat, either. Any ideas on what I could do?

You could get a stealthbox for the driver's side cubby. Both JL and MTX make those. I make a passenger side stealth that's equally impressive. Another idea is one of my milhouse boxes. You can find more info about my products at my site. Link's in sig.

Well I've got the factory 12-disc changer in that driver's side cubby.

Move it to the other side of the car like everyone else does.

So you're saying move the disc-changer to that little platform on the drivers side and put the sub in the cubby? Hmm, that's a good idea. that way I wouldn't have to mod the **** out of my passenger side mouldings. And I probably would have never thought of that But wouldn't I have to rewire it basically from the stereo? unless I wanted a wire running across my trunk.

You can do one of two things here. Go to www.radiosandmore.com and get the wiring harness for the changer ($40 I think) and run it down the passenger side of the car to relocate it. Or you can cut off the plug that goes into the changer and splice in wire extensions so the cable will reach across the car under the carpeting.

Yeah that is probably what I'll do, get the harness, I don't really want to start cutting any factory wires. Do you know the address for JL or MTX? you only posted a picture of the stealthbox

are you pretty happy with that JL Vantage stealthbox? I kindof like the MTX one, how it looks with the screen in place and everything. but I wonder if that hinders sound. If I went with JL, I think I'd order the regular JL stealthbox that is already carpeted and comes with the sub, but I know nothing about stereo equipment so I don't know if that sub is any good or not.

But those are the three I'm looking at: JL, JL Vantage, and MTX.

I have a friend that went with the loaded MTX Thunderform box. The Thunderform has 2 disadvantages over the JL box, it desn't fit quite as well, and the Thunder 6000 sub is not a top quality sub IMO. His blew in no time at all.

The loaded JL Stealthbox comes with a TOP quality sub, the 10W3, but the carpet is a lighter gray than that used in the F-Body trunk and doesn't match as well. The Vantage box can be carpeted to match perfectly, and of course you can still buy a 10W3 to mount in it and it will sound EXACTLY like the loaded stealthbox, but you'll actually save money if you buy them separately. The Vantage box retails for around $139 I believe, and you can buy a 10W3 from www.cbrstereo.com for $139. Having the box carpeted will only run around $30, so that only totals about $310 and the loaded JL stealthbox retails for $399.

I'm VERY happy with my choice, and if I had it to do again, I would do exactly the same thing.

you could always put subs on the back behind the seats and before the t-top well. I have 2 12's sitting there(1 cubic foot a piece), my t-tops still fit.

Go with the Vantage box. Thats what I've got and I couldn't be happier with it. Especially since I switched from the JL 10W3 I had to the Alpine Type-S I'm using now. It's a much better match for the Vantage box's .6 cubic feet than the 10W3 is by a long shot.
