Installing 10 gal Fuel Cell, gotta a few ???s
Installing 10 gal Fuel Cell, gotta a few ???s
Im looking recessing in into the rear deck which wont be a big deal but is there any structural integrity to be compromised in this area of the car, as far as I can tell there isnt just curious as to if anybody else has recessed their cell in this manner as opposed to just bolting in down on top..
thanks,

Re: Custom 10gal Fuel cell install, Gotta few Q's
TTT
oh and i know the NHRA rules state that the fuel cell must be seperated from the drivers compartment so my idea may come close to passing but im not fully concerned with it.

Re: Installing 10 gal Fuel Cell, gotta a few ???s
I believe he's talking about the area directly above the stock fue; tank where most people cut a door to change the fuel pump. If thats the case, you should be fine, like stated above most people cut a door in this area to change the fuel pump. There is probable some structural strength to this area because its a unibody car and just about every piece of metal on the body plays a role in stiffening the car, but it shouldn't be a problem.
Re: Installing 10 gal Fuel Cell, gotta a few ???s
I wouldn't see any problems mounting it anywhere in the rear. As long as your replacing the structure with something else. If it was a big gapping hole, there may be a slight concern...lol
I suggest using square tubing to make a box for it to rest on and tieing that into the chassis structure.

Re: Installing 10 gal Fuel Cell, gotta a few ???s
I've seen one tucked up where the old fuel tank used to sit. Just hung under there, not cut through the package shelf. The access panel for adding fuel was in the vertical part of the hatch well. At least that way you don't cut much in the way of the structure, and you don't have 10 gallons of fuel in the pasenger compartment. NHRA doesn't require a firewall just to be difficult.
Re: Installing 10 gal Fuel Cell, gotta a few ???s
yah, the area directly the stock fuel tank is where I want to cut out a square in the sheetmetal of the car and fab additional supports out of square tubing to hold the fuelcell, also I want to build a case for the cell out of sheetmetal so it can be removable.
