How much drive shaft yoke???

I have been working on my w123 mercedes lt1 conversion and i was wondering how much (in inches) of the drive shaft yoke can stick out of the 4l60e without any future problems???

The polished mark of the yoke (i assume this was all inside the trans when it was in its original car) is about a half inch from the u-joint, one i made my trans cross member i ended up with 1 3/4" sticking out is this to much???

Alot is in the trans but i don't want to strip the output shaft when i floor it.

Thanks,
Maurice

For moderate HP levels, push the yoke into the tranny tailshaft housing until it bottoms out, then pull it out at least 1/2". That is the minimum allowable clearance. For a high HP setup, or one with an unusually large amount of driveshaft offset between the engine and the rear, allow 0.75 - 1.00" clearance.

Thanks, So is 1 3/4" too much? i mean since you said more hp to move it out a little more then would another 1/2 - 3/4" on top of that be to much more? I was worried about too much stripping the output shaft.

Thanks,
Maurice

I was thinking that I wouldn't want more then 1" sticking out

You will probably just need to get the shaft lengthened, should cost about $100-$135 at a driveshaft shop
