High Beams on 1997 Z28 Don't Work
High Beams on 1997 Z28 Don't Work
They worked fine about 6 months ago, then they would randomly "fade" in and out while i was driving.... like kinda as if i was flashing someone but still stay predominately on.... and now they just flat out don't turn on.
Notes:
-The High beam light in my instrument cluster would come on if they were actually on, and yes now that doesn't come on either obv.
-I did install Hella FF75 headlights for my high and low beams.
-Lows work Fine, have never had a problem with them.
-I am running 55watt bulbs in both low and high.
-Fuses and relays are fine.
-I read somewhere that the stock wiring can handle like 85 watts, and my lows still work fine, so this would lead me to believe its not a wiring issue.
I was thinking it could be my actual high beam switch/trigger on my steering wheel column. That might describe why the lights started to fade on and off b4 they stopped working completely.
Any ideas?
If it is the switch/trigger on the steering wheel column, is that easy to fix? It honestly doesn't look it.
thanks

See item # 83 for the dimmer switch - located at the bottom of the column.
Try working it manually ( it's a click switch ) , and if the high beams come on, the the switch is out of adjustment or there is an issue w/ either the actuator rod, or the black plastic piece that rides on top of it inside the housing cap ( the cap is # 25 ) in the column.
Tearing into the column is not hard if you have the proper tools to remove the steering wheel & lockplate - if not, it's a wee bit tricky , and strong thumbs from a helper will be a big plus for the lockplate removal.
Good Luck !

He's playing some sort of head game. Thinks it’s cool to dig up three or four of these 20 year old threads each day and post a very brief, superficial response. Unfortunately he posts erroneous info from time to time, and I try to correct it so it doesn’t mislead someone using the “search” function.
