bright lights
bright lights
Somebody tried to steal my car last week while I was Christmas shopping. anyway.. they busted the column all up.. I got it to start and work fine but the only problem is the bright lights are stuck on. I can't find a switch or anything in there that makes them dim... Anyone know of a way to put it on dims all the time? anything until I can get up enough money to get a new column. by the way, it's a 92 firebird..........thanks
switch
The only way I know how to get to the switch and replace it is to remove the steering wheel which is a real bitch especially if you have an air bag. I have been having a problem with the switch not working all the time so I was going to replace it however I dont really want to take the steering wheel off. The switch is (at least on my car) under the turn signal stalk. When you pull back it activates it. My problem is when you pull the stalk the switch does not activate all the time and this is because the plastic that the switch pulls against is cracked in two. It is not a bad crack but just enough that the switch does not activate or deactivate as it may be. You might have the same problem. There is a plastic cover right under the steering tilt lever if you remove that you can see the back of the switch. I had to push the plastic piece against the steering column while I pulled the stalk to deactivate the brights. If you are in a real bind and you dont mind them to be un-useable you can always pull the connectors at the lights themselves.
well, my column is busted up pretty good so getting to it won't be all that hard. problem is, I can't figure out where the switch is.. I've monkeyed with all the switches and anything movable in there but no luck. there's a spring in there that dosn't seem to be connected to anything.. would you have a good description on what the swich looks like? is it under the turn signal lever? oh yeah.. It's a firebird so it only has one headlight per side. I only drive in the city so I don't really need the bright lights. thanx
