Fuel pump not shutting off after--

94 z28, fuel pump replaced about eight months ago. Today when I pulled into the driveway, I noticed that the pump, or something in the rear was still humming after I shut the car off and removed the key. The humming finaly stopped just as soon as I opened and releived the pressure at the filler point.
What does this mean? Reallly don't want to do another fuel pump job.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Could be pressure built up in the gas tank and the sound was pressure bleeding off. I guess your fuel pump relay could get stuck in the closed position but I doubt that opening the gas cap would cause the relay to open.

Did'nt do it awhile ago when I went to town. Short drive, unlike my drive home from work. Don't know, will change fuel filter this weekend.

Thanks for your help.

if its still doing it, pull the fuse/relay for the fuel pump. if it then shuts off, it sounds like a sticking relay.

Re: Fuel pump not shutting off after--

Where is the fuse relay plug? Seems like when fuel pump went out my father in law wanted to check the relay. It's been awhile, but I don't remember one being in the fuse block under the hood, or in the dash. I do remember their being some sort of electrical connector mounted under the rear of the car back by the fuel tank. Is that what I am looking for?

Has not happened again yet.

Thanks once more.
