Fans won't turn on...
Fans won't turn on...
I replaced the water pump and thermostat to fix my broken water pump/overheating problem but now the car temp. steadily rises to the overheating point again and i noticed that the fans will not turn on...can anyone help me with why they won't turn on and how i can get them to turn on???
Re: Fans won't turn on...
which fuse am i checking because in the fuse box under the hood there are fuses for "cooling fan #1" "cooling fan #2" and "cooling fan #3" even tho i only have 2 fans...
Re: Fans won't turn on...
fuse box inside the car on dash panel, you could also have someone hook a scan tool up to it and start the fans to elimate the motors as the problem, or do what I did hook up a fan switch
Re: Fans won't turn on...
i read alot of replies and info about using a scan tool but what exactly is a scan tool then...because if i know what it is ill get one (or maybe already have one) and then use it...because i really need to get this problem fixed...car has been down for almost a week now..
Re: Fans won't turn on...
You could try and use my how-to site in my sig for the fan switch. I think it is a little different for OBDII vehicles though.
Since you replaced the water pump, you might have done something to that temp sensor. The sensor in the pump is for the fans, the one in the heads is for the gauge. Look at that water pump sensor first.

Re: Fans won't turn on...
Fans worked fine before the water pump change? Maybe it's just a bad connection or corrosion on the plug at the temp sensor on the pump... Try unplugging it and plugging it back in if you've tried everything else.
Re: Fans won't turn on...
the thing is that everything worked fine b4 i replaced the water pump and thermostat...but i had to replace them both because the car over heated real bad...and the waterpump just died on me...so now everything is working great except for the fans...and a friend of mine is a mechanic and said a way to test the sensor on the water pump is to unplug the wire that connects to it from the fans and turn the key to give the car power and it should "trick" the fans into coming on without the car being on...if they do then the sensor is bad...if not then its something else...and of course they didnt come on when i did that lol..**** y have an easy solution...after all it is an f-body
