Engine got wet, now pings
Engine got wet, now pings
Hi Guys,
I power washed the engine in my 94 Z28 yesterday, I took it for a ride and everything was fine. This morning I started it and it was missing, I let it warm up and the miss went away. When I initially hit the throttle it pings (like spark knock) but when it gets above idle it now runs smooth and revs fine.
What did I get wet and what do I need to do???
Thanks! Ralph

Re: Engine got wet, now pings
You got your optispark wet. The optispark is a distributor mounted on the front of our engines that uses and optical sensor to keep track of timing. Moisture can prevent the optical sensor from reading accurately, and cause misses.
If youre lucky, just give your car a few days to dry out. If it doesnt dry out, your distributor will have to be replaced.
Next time you wash down the engine, try to avoid getting the front wet.
