replacing a keyless entry remote?
replacing a keyless entry remote?
My keyless entry remote has seen its better days and needs to be replaced. It is for a 94 z28 and is i believe the factory 2 button system. i got quoted 63 dollars just for the part and they want another 25 to program it, because it supposedly needs to be hooked to a computer. does this sound correct? if not any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanx

Re: replacing a keyless entry remote?
just did both my new remotes (got them off ebay for 13 shipped and something like 9 shipped)
programming is as simple as a paperclip depressing on 2 of the connectors on the dlc
literally takes about 5 seconds
check rob's page out too, like he suggested
you'll find it's one of the most helpful sites and not only for programming keyless remotes

Re: replacing a keyless entry remote?
Is it possible that my remote is crapping out because it only works when I'm within 2 feet of the door? Can it be a weak signal from the transmitter in the car, or just the remote? Now for a a remote does one have to use a GM remote or can it be something in the aftermarket area like the ones you get in alarm kits on eBay?

check either and if it's weak contacts, you can keep cleaning them each week or each month (whatever) or just get a new remote
you can either go on ebay and get a used gm remote or go to autozone and get a remote (they sell them now)
don't think you can use the remotes in the alarm kits on ebay...seems like it would take a lot of work to use it when you could just get a new remote and program in 5 seconds
