WARNING - MD/PA Craigslist ad for affordable paint work

To the folks in the Maryland / Pennsylvania area:

Beware of a couple that advertizes on Craigslist on "affordable paintwork" in Littlestown, Pennsylvania. The woman who posted the ad talks a real good story when you arrive.

My son and I bought into her bs, and we left the car thinking the car was in good hands.*

When we picked up the car, my son almost had a fit. The car looked like crap. Overspray and tons of orange peel and runs. Basically, the car is ruined, and now we have to hope that wet sanding and polishing will make it look better.

So beware of this ad.

Save your $1400 and get your car painted right by a competant painter. It may cost more, but anything will look better than this tragedy.

Re: WARNING - MD/PA Craigslist ad for affordable paint work

What's really sad is that this is my sons first car. He was really looking forward to seeing his car shine. What we got was a total mess. He's pretty much given up on his car.

I should have known better. The saying if it's too good to be true than it probably is. A real shame. Either way, we're hoping that wet sanding and polishing will do something.

Angry Re: WARNING - MD/PA Craigslist ad for affordable paint work

I am the son he is talking about, can confirm that it might be the worst paint job I have ever seen. Quite disheartening.

You could give your 4 year old child a paint gun and minor instruction on how to paint and they could produce a better end product than this woman.

Reinforcing what my father said -- do not go for the cheap option when you paint. Three to four grand might seem like a lot when you get a quote, but at least you won't want to punch a wall when you get your car back.

Will post updates on the forums when we start wetsanding and polishing, maybe a nice before and after post.

EDIT: I realized I sort of sounded like an unappreciative spoiled son in that post. I want to clear up that I appreciate what my father did for me. It was not his fault that this lady did not know how to paint a car. We were both excited to get the car painted and we were both equally disappointed when we got it back. Sorry if I came off wrong.
