edel pro flow air filter

ok so i got the camaro going finally and put a pro flow foam filter on and went for a cruise. about half throutle it starves out. ive used the pro flow on 350ci befor with no probs. i guess for a big block its just not enough. they say it flows 1000cfm. i must be missing something.

Re: edel pro flow air filter

Without knowing the details of your "big block" it's very hard to comment? Displacement? flywheel HP? Normally aspirated?

A number such as "flows 1,000 cfm" is totally meaningless, unless it is accompanied by the pressure drop they used when they measured the flow. They would also have to state whether its ACFM or SCFM corrected to some standard conditions.

Re: edel pro flow air filter

the filter im talking about it the triangle shaped one with the foam incert. when i read that they flowed 1000cfm i figured it would be ok to use. thats all the info i seen. i cant seem to find where i read it though. my engine is 468ci some mild head work team g single plain. 10.2:1 comp . dont know what my power out put it yet but it would be nice to know . i can open it up when i take the air filter off so. my only issue with this set up is deciding how to do the intake. if i put a 4in tall k&n filter on then ill have to use a 6in tall hood scoop. my concern is visibility on the road.

Re: edel pro flow air filter

If you run it temporarily without the air filter element, does it still "starve out" at half throttle and above?

nope. thats how i know its the filter. been looking for info on it but nothing. oh well. guess ill have to use a drop base 4in air cleaner. the carb sticks out 2in above the hood. hopefully that will let me use a 4in hood scoop.

Re: edel pro flow air filter

Is this the filter you are using?

If it is, they are terrible! They will start to fall apart and all that black foam material gets sucked into the engine. Plus if you happen to backfire through the carb, the foam tends to catch on fire.

This is from experience. I bought a 84 z28 with one of those on it.
