crash door bar removal, how did you get it out???

I have a 10 point cage in the car and I did a search that didn't return anything. How the hell do you get to the front 2 bolts to get the crash bars inside the door out. I got the 2 by the door handle out but for the life of me I can not think of how to get the front 2 out. I took a 10mm socket and ground it down to almost nothing. Just enough to catch the bolt and it worked until the ratchet (which is the skinniest 1/4" I could find) started rubbing on the doorskin. I haven't found any tool to catch the other one. What did you guys use to get it out??
thanks

Sounds like this is installed before the door skin is glued on. May have to cut it off.

That is correct. I removed one once, and it required removal of the door skin.

How much do those things weigh? Just curious if it's really worth the effort...

I dont recall the weight. I was creating documentation at the time showing the inner guts of the door and had to remove the skin and crashbar to get a clean camera shot.

The whole mess went in the garbage when I was done. Sorry i dont still have it, or I'd weigh it for you.

Hmm, may be something I consider in the future, when I'm really hunting to shave pounds...

both crash bars by themselves were something like 16.8 pounds (off of a friends car.) The dremel will be in action tomorrow
