Catback question

I just bought a 94 Z28 that was specially ordered from GM in 1994. The previous owner ordered it. Anyway, one of the packages he got was Stainless steel factory exhuast throughout the underbody. I am looking to do an exhaust upgrade for around $300 or so. Should I just get a bolt on Flowmaster muffler; remove the CATS?? Please help me make my decision. Thank you.

Re: Catback question

All the cars came with stainless from the cat on back. It wasn't an option.

To get the full benefits, you need to get a complete "catback".... 3" intermediate pipe and muffler. Replacing just the muffler will not gain you as much.

Removing the cat (you only have one on your 94) might pick up a couple HP, but you may have emissions issues depending where you live. You need to decide whether you want to go with headers in the future. If you go with headers in the future you will have to decide whether to get mid-length headers and the Y-pipe that comes with them, or some long-tube headers with an optional Y-pipe. If you are planning headers in the future, leave your existing Y-pipe alone. If you are not planning headers in the future, then look into an upgraded Y-pipe with high-flow cat, or with an "off road pipe".

Re: Catback question

3" mandrel bent pipes instead of the stock crimped ones. Then it will flow better to your advantage. Also get SS steel.
