Re: brake light on

The "BRAKE" light can be activated by three sources:

1 - E-brake switch

2 - Combo (differential pressure) switch on side of the ABS hydraulic modulator assembly (motor pack).

3 - certain faults detected by the EBCM (electronic brake control module) cause it to turn on the light from pin B4 of the EBCM.

Did you leave the EBCM in place? If so, pull the harness connector C2 off. Odd that pulling the ABS fuse turns the light off, preventing the E-brake switch from working. The 1995 factory schematic for the "BRAKE" light (the file attached below) shows the light gets 12 volts from "GAGES" fuse #9 in the instrument panel block. The E-brake switch, the Combo valve, and the EBCM pin only supply a ground to turn on the light.

Re: brake light on

So.... you removed BOTH the EBCM and the the ABS motor pack with the combo valve attached to it?

There are 2 "units". The EBCM is not the same as the motor pack/combo valve. It is located inside the passenger compartment, above the driver's side kick panel.

Maybe you removed that, but it isn't clear from your response. And if it isn't removed, or at least unplugged, it would explain why your light is staying on.

Re: brake light on

just looked at that EBCM. there is one small plug and one large plug with a lot of wires. will unplugging them affect anything else in the car? have not done it yet
