94 Z28 Problem

So I just got a good deal on this Z28 Camaro that runs a little weird. It starts up rough and when I floor it it backfires. I get no smoke at all and everything else is fine. I plan on changing the spark plugs and wires tomorrow. Any more mechanical suggestions? thanks

When i bought mine it didn't seem to be as powerful as i thought and LT1 would have been and it kinda studdered during idle and going down the road. After driving it for 2 weeks i noticed one of the spark plug wires was on the exhaust manifold and burnt through it making it ground out. After i replaced the wires it ran like a champ.

Might be a good idea to start with a PCM scan, checking for codes.

I do have a SES light. Where can I get it scanned? Can I buy a OBD 1 scanner that will work at a reasonable price and if so what do you recommend?

AutoXray made a good OBD-I scanner that you can find used, fairly cheap.

Or, you can donwload free scanning software, and get a cable:

DataMaster - free download, 20 free uses
http://www.ttspowersystems.com/

FreeScan - totally free

Cable:

The scanning software can do a lot more than read codes. You can interpret the scan data with this:
