Engine won't start oil gauge peged

Went to start my 97 SS and it started up ran 5 seconds and died. Oil gauge now pegs to max. Check Gauges light is on. I think oil sending unit bad causing ecm to kill fuel pump.

What you think?

Oil sending unit only feeds the guage. Does not connect to the PCM. And there is no circuitry that causes an oil pressure problem to shut down the fuel pump. Maybe you have an engine ground problem.

If there is no continuity to the o/p sensor, the gauge will peg.

When I unplug the gauge it stays pegged. So if the sender only powers the gauge why does the check gauge light come on, is it connected or is it a separate problem.

I will check engine grounds, they can cause weird electrical problems.

Because the check gauges light is part of the cluster-not part of the computer. The check gauges light is a redundant feature to tell you to CHECK [LOOK AT] THE GAUGES.
