‘00 Z28 Bent Axle. Replaced shaft but still rubs. Bent backing plate?
Awhile back I hit a curb with the rear tire. The wheel was busted and the end of the axle shaft was bent. I replaced the axle shaft, wheel and rotor but the pads still rub the rotor. Prior to replacing the axle shaft the rotor came into contact to the point where you couldn’t spin it by hand. With the new axle you an turn it but you can hear it rubbing. When I look at the tire when it’s off of the ground I think it looks pushed inward on the bottom so I’m thinking maybe the thick metal part of the backing plate is pushed inboard at the bottom. Would y’all take a gamble on a new backing plate? They are on the expensive side used and I haven’t found a new one other than Hawk’s set for $300. Or is it more than likely that the brakes will still rub and that I need a whole new axle assy?
I’ve messed with it so much that I think that I’m going to need a new caliper too. I can’t get it tightened down to the bracket anymore. Even if I hold the bushing on the slide pin so it doesn’t spin the caliper is still loose when the bolt bottoms out. I’m in a pickle.

Have the entire rear axle assembly checked for damage/misalignment. Whole thing might be bent up if you hit that hard.
