Hit a curb and need help assesing the damage...
It was raining and while going around 30 mph my backend got loose on me and I hit the curb pretty hard with the right rear. The rim is definately a gonner as it is cracked and scratched to hell but I need to know what else to look for. The wheel is tweaked and not running true and my brakes are grinding on the rotor bad. Do you think that I bent the axle as well? Is it possible that my gear set could be damaged? I have to take to the dealer because I am in a college and have no way to work on the car here but I am just trying to get an idea of what will need to be replaced. Here is my mental list thus far:
Wheel
Rotor (already has deep grooves in it)
Axle?
Brake Caliper?
I know it is impossible to get an accurate estimate but I am just trying to feel it out. It feels like I am driving with the e-brake on, and no I didn't drive it very far after it happened. Do you think it would be cheaper to get a whole new rearend from a scrap yard possibly?
Thanks for you time and give me your best guess....

There's allot that could explain it.
You could have just bent your brake Calliber housing... or bent the bolts holding it.
I was going to say..if you were at home you could remove the pumpkin cover and inspect the differential. That's the real Wallet f***er. If you messed a tooth or something up on that you have to get a new one. Which may include Gear instlalation Fees. If, your axle was actually pushed in. There's allot of things that can go wrong... and then again things don't always look as they seem. If your lucky you'll get a new rim, and brake caliper setup...just hope nothing in the Diff is F to the UK..ED-ucational department.

I never jumped a curb with the back end on my ta but on my dad's ford I did. I was going 30 or so and his brakes locked up (I'm used to abs) I went sideways into a curb and it did bend the axle and it made that grinding sound your talking about. The wheel was very wobblely looking whenever we drove it untill we replaced the axle it's straight now but still makes that sound. I feel bad I know I should go out there and fix it for good but I'm so busy w/ school!
Hope this helps!

If anything, you bent the axle shaft. The axle shaft slides into the axle housing, and I highly doubt that your minor bang-bang would warrant replacing the entire rear end. You could probably purchase a used axle shaft for about $50.
Based on my past experiences I'd bet you probably bent the axle shaft and most probably the panhard rod. If you look from the back do the wheels seem centered still or do they seem a little offset to one side? The suspensions on these beasts are really fragile considering the heft of the cars. By the way, as an aside, I happen to have a brand new still in the box Moser axle shaft that I'm getting ready to post if you need it.
Good luck,
Rob K.
