something causing ignition switches to go bad?

My problem first started when my car wouldn't start. The ding sound from the keys being in would be faint but then after a few seconds it would return to normal and the guages would light up. If I tried to start it the starter clicked and everything turned off. Then again after a few seconds gauges lit up etc. Seemed like an ignition switch problem, so I replaced it and everything worked like it should for a day. Now I'm back to where I was before. What could be causing the switches to go bad? And what wires are used to hot wire the car to start it so I can drive. My other car is 400 miles away and I need to get around. Thanks

Joe

The main 12v power connector to the switch often gets hot and makes a poor connection at the switch. Did you check that?

It should have been real easy to spot. Most look like this.

Hey Shoebox,

What causes the switch to do that and is there a fix for it? I just replaced my second one in 6 years now...

Thanks
