install used fuel pump??
install used fuel pump??
my car has a bad fuel pump. the shop i had it towed to wants $1000...500 for the pump, 500 for labor. that isn't happening so i had it towed home. i have a pump from my SS with about 80k miles on it. the car was run with that pump until about 10 months ago. the last 10 months it has been sitting. i only plan to keep this car another year or so until next summer when i buy a new one.
the question...will i be kicking myself by going through the trouble of installing this old fuel pump only to have it die on me and have to do the work again? should I spend $500 or maybe a little less on a new one if i'm only keeping the car another year? where would the best price be found?
thanks!

Pumps are $100-$110 most places on line anyway.

Racetronix 255 LPH direct replacement pump is $150.

The AirTex LT1 fuel pump for $300 is a complete assembly... pump, basket, lines, level sensor, etc. You shouldn't need all that. You need a fuel pump to put into your stock assembly.

no, i shouldn't need the whole assembly. i called jason cromer and he said about $250 for a delco. is it easy to fit that racetronix pump to the complete assembly? sounds like that might be the way to go. I don't want to pay $150 when i can try the old one i have, but i don't want to have to do the work again. i guess $150 is worth that...
thanks
thanks
Yeah - its pretty easy. They give you what you need to do it - you have to crack open the bucket, install the pump and glue it back in there. You will need the little tools to disconnect the fuel lines, and have to, of course, do all the other work to get the sending unit in & out.
Only prob I had with Racetronix is that they gave me a pump which did not match my stock pump exactly - the inlet was not offset to one side, rather it was in the middle - so it did not fit in the bucket straight which pissed me off. I E-mailed them and they acted like I didn't know what I was talking about. The replacement pump - GS340 was the one in the middle - the OEM is on the left and the new Walbro is on the right. The GS340 did work, however, there was no way to put it in there straight.

It works fine, just doesnt fit the way it should. Now they are probably using the newer pump since that other one might not be made any longer anyway. You could call them about it, then just make sure you get a kit newer than whenever they were using the 340. That's my best advice.
