Ignition/starting problem
Ignition/starting problem
I was pulling out of the store and my car dies. I jiggled the Ignition key and finally found the sweet spot where it seemed to have engaged and my "start-up" lights on my dash came on. I drove maybe 20 ft and the same thing happens. I did the same thing again and it worked so I go onto the interstate and made it about 14 miles when my car dies again. But, before it dies my speedo and tach go haywire. I pull of to the shoulder and when I turn the key nothing happens... ie, my fuel pump doesn't prime, my start-up lights on my dash doesn't come on and most importantly... my car is completely silent when I try to start it. Nothing clicks, nothing pops, and nothing happens.
I replaced the Ignition Cylinder today and that didn't remedy it. My next guess is ICM, relay or some little midget that I pissed off a few years ago inside my steering column saying "**** you!"
Note: My starter is also engaged by a push button

Check out Shoebox's ignition switch repair procedure. Appears to describe your symptoms:

Last week I sinned... guy across the street from my house asked me to look at his 92 5.0 with a new Kenne Bell S/C. He was having major belt alignment problems. Guy who replaced his power steering pump had tried to fix the belt problems by not putting the PS pump pulley on all the way... what a mess. I have no pride.
Well boss... IT WORKED! I was able to do it without completely removing the column. it was cramped but the hardest part was reinstalling the black cable into its slot. My blue connector as well as the corresponding portion of the switch was burnt.
Once again sir... thank you!

I guess I'm in the same boat is you Fred. I changed the oil on my brother's 88 5.0 for him. I swear that thing was held together by duct tape.
