fuel pump not priming
fuel pump not priming
Ok so when i turn the key usually the pump kicks on and primes the engine. well its not doing that anymore. I replaced the fuel pump about a year ago so it should be fine. i tried a new fuel pump relay and that didnt work. i dont know what to do now. Sunday night it started up just fine at home i drove 10 minutes to a gas station to fill up. went to start it and it wouldnt it took me about 10-15 min to finally get it to start but it slowly rumbled to life but once it was running it ran perfectly fine and i could hear the fuel pump running like it usually does so i drove it home and then had the same problem the next day. Any suggestions on what i should do next?
Re: fuel pump not priming
Could check for corrosion on connector between harness and the pump, ref shbox.com http://shbox.com/1/fuel_pump_connector.jpg . Or next time it does not run try jumping +12 v to the prime connector under the hood that puts +12 v directly to the FP (gray wire) and bypasses the PCM and the relay. http://shbox.com/1/fuel_pump_prime.jpg . Problem could also be no FP relay pick from the PCM, can you verify the relay is picking when FP does not run ?
Re: fuel pump not priming
Just an afterthought, the ignition switch is a common failure in the older cars, does the tac move when you are cranking, that indicates the PCM is powered on. Also does the security light come on for 5 seconds then go off when you just turn the key off to on, that says VATs is working.
Re: fuel pump not priming
well i found the problem and its the connector between the harness and the pump. http://shbox.com/1/fuel_pump_connector.jpg I messed with it last night and the pump started working and now this morning its not working again. I just gotta mess with it to keep a good connection
Re: fuel pump not priming
Clean it up good, dry it off and find the source, there should not be raw fuel anywhere outside the tank, unless it was a spill from somewhere. Just a reminder bad/corroded electrical connections and gas fumes don't mix very well.
Re: fuel pump not priming
yeah gas leaked once from overfilling (pump didnt stop on own). But i took the tank out and it was a melted connection in the tank. I dont know the cause of it possibly a loose connection or bad ground but it is all fixed now. thanks for the help.
