Fuel pump noise

Hearing the fuel pump is nothing new. But i have noticed it sounds different. if i stick my head down in the hatch I notice it now sounds like the high pitch electric motor sound, i can also hear it from my driver side rear tire.

it reminds me of those chevy trucks you hear go by that sound like an electric car cause the fuel pump is so loud.

car isn't running bad or anything, I just noticed the pump sounds a little different.

The only way to know the condition of your pump is to hook up a fuel pressure gauge and take readings at KOEO, cranking, idle, and WOT. If all checks out, then you should be fine.

The time to worry is when your fuel pump stops making that little whining noise.

and what are acceptable pressures for each of those situations?

It has been a while since I messed with mine, but if you hook up a FP gauge with a schrader valve to the port at the rear driver side of the intake manifold where the FP regulator is located you can check it there. FP should be about 45psi or so. From my experience fuel pumps either work or they don't.

KOEO - Key On Engine Off (turn the key but not all the way, this will prime the pump)
