fuel issue

My name is adam and i have a 94 z28 with fuel issues...i jus replaced my opitspark, plugs and wires,,,the car starts up and idles fine...but when you accelerate it pops and bogs down...if i ease into the pedal its fine...its only when im really puttin the hammer down will it die out...so i checked the fuel pressure at the shrader valve and it jus bubbles out with air and some gas...the fuel pump does not seem to turn on....ne ideas as to what is causing this????

Re: fuel issue

When you turn the key to "on" without starting the engine, the fuel pump should run for about 2 seconds, then shut off. It should pressure the system to at least 40psi. You need to check it with a fuel pressure gauge.

Yea i figured i would have to do that....sometimes i GET pressure out of the shrader valve and sometimes i dont....i jus didnt know if the popping and sputtering on acceleration would be a fuel issue or not??

Try checking the pump and filters, could be the filter...

Re: fuel issue

I jus changed the fuel filter...but it seems the popping is coming from the the front of the motor...distributor area...it ran like a raped ape when i first put my new optispark in...and now it jus wants to die out...the pump comes on once and a while when i cycle the key but not all the time

Re: fuel issue

Could be a faulty fuel pump, faulty relay, wiring problem, etc. You can test the fuel pump by powering it directly by applying 12V to the fuel pump prime connector near the PCM. That will bypass the relay and all the PCM interlocks, allowing you to see if the pump will run continuously and what pressure it develops. The only thing that check won't tell you is if you have a wiring problem.
