Clogged fuel filter?

Could a clogged fuel filter cause sudden stoppage of acceleration and cause the car to not restart? My fuel pump is probably the cause but I am curious about this question.

entirely possible.

If you lack a fuel pressure gauge...take off the shrader valve cover from the rear of the fuel rails and press in on it with a screwdriver (look sjust like a tire valve), then have someone turn the key to the on position. If your filter really is that clogged up, then it will not spray more fuel.

If your pump is out completely, then you will not hear the buzz for 1.5 seconds as it primes the fuel system. If you still hear that and you don't get added fuel pressure/spraying out, then it could be either the pump or the filter, filter is cheaper and easy to test if its clogged badly.

It was dry as a bone.

The gas station mechanic says there is zero pressure and he says that he thinks its the pump because "it not spray much gas." I asked him to replace the filter anyway to see what happens. He won't put in a new pump for me so I will have to have it towed to a garage elsewhere.

Thanks for the tips.

I would also confirm that there isn't a electrical issue with the fuel pump. It would be a shame to spend several hundred dollars having it replaced only for it to be a bad relay or something of the electrical sort.

Thanks. I will have the new mechanic do a thorough diagnosis first. I will update the results as it may be of help to others.
